Whether you are just visiting on vacation or call Jacksonville your home, this area is one of the best when it comes to family activities. We have everything you could need, from engaging museums to outdoor adventures. No matter your interests, I’m positive we have the spot that’s perfect for your crew! As a Jacksonville family photographer, I spend a lot of time helping families make memories. Here are the family activities in Jacksonville my family has loved.
370 Zoo Parkway, Jacksonville, Florida 32218
Jacksonville Zoo is located on over 100 acres and features animals from across the globe and tons of family based activities. The award-winning center combines conservation efforts with educational exhibits to provide you with an experience unlike any other. While you are there, you can check out over 2,000 rare and exotic animals and take a stroll through their vibrant botanical gardens lush with native plants. I don’t know when the last time I actually walked this ENTIRE zoo in one visit. I’m normally exhausted half way through. Something to note, in the summer they do have a splash pad for kids!
1445 Millcoe Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32225
Jacksonville Arboretum sits on 120 acres and has family activities happening all year long. From spring through the fall, you can come and see plants from across the globe as they bloom. There are quiet trails where you can spot wild animals who have made a home in the garden. Once winter arrives, you can stop by to see holiday light displays and structures.
8580 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida 32216
“Hands On” Children’s Museum taps into kids’ natural sense of curiosity by providing them with educational exhibits. Your child will get to spend some time learning through observation, creative construction, and role-playing. They can also put those problem-solving skills to good use as they figure out solutions. Once you purchase admission, you can stay for as long as you’d like. This children’s museum has different sections, like a bank, a grocery store, a fire house, a diner, etc. My kids have gotten older, so I haven’t been in a couple of years, but the last few times I went it got pretty warm in there in the summer. So dress appropriately or plan to go on cooler days!
500 Wonderwood Dr, Unit #9, Jacksonville, Florida 32233
Adventure Kayak Florida gives you the chance to see Jacksonville in a brand-new activity with the family! They offer different adventures that get you out on the water. You can rent out canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats. There are also on-premise campgrounds and guided family trips in case you want to turn your visit into a weekend getaway! We used this company one year to go kayaking and it was soo fun. We saw lots of animals and shells.
1025 Museum Circle, Jacksonville, Florida 32207
MOSH–or Museum of Science and History–is all about helping Jacksonville kids learn through discovery family activities. They have a fabulous mixture of permanent and traveling exhibits so you can always see something new each time you stop in. Your child can learn about animals, take a ride through space, or go for a stroll through the native plant courtyard. They also have homeschool exploration programs where families can come in for supplemental lessons.
